Talking of data being misleading, gold did not drop from $1200USD to $750USD. (It dropped from $1000 to $712 - a little less sensationalist)
For reference:
Gold 2007: $632/oz
Gold 2008: Topped $1000USD
Gold 2008: Dropped to as low as $712
Gold 2009 (5 months later): Recovered to a high of $984
Gold 2009 (December - 10 months on): Up to $1212 high
