Although, the Rev Jim Jones affair had nothing to do with the Congo (that happened in South America), I take your point to be that any penny Canadian gold stocks should be viewed with a great deal of suspicion.
They usually come out of Vancouver or Toronto like BreeEX Minerals which, investors will recall hardly a decade a ago, "found" a great deal of gold in Indonesia.
Turned out that the gold was "salted"; the geologist fell out of a plane but his body once recovered was rejected by his relatives as not being his ; the directors ran away to the Carribean with hundreds of millions from cashed-in shares, etc, etc.
Reminds one of the our own Perilya affair.
