adamp, I don't thiink your information is correct. Per US Govt Treasury's latest figures (last week) they still hold 8138.077 tons of gold mostly at Fort Knox. I have given the link & some deatils for gold below. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Treasury Department today released U.S. reserve assets data for the latest week. As indicated in this table, U.S. reserve assets totaled $84,345 million as of the end of that week, compared to $85,051 million as of the end of the prior week.
