re: gold - just took off!! ok ok i'm awake...perre My first stock purchase was in October 1987 about 1-2 weeks before the 87 crash (great timing!).

Purchased a junior explorer/gold miner called Ross mining for $1.30 on a tip. I new absolutely nothing about the share market!

Following the '87 crash Ross mining fell to around 7-8 cents and stayed there for 5 years.

I continued to hold until late 1992 and sold out (at a big loss)on a spike to 12 cents as I needed the funds to help buy a house.

It turns out that this spike was the start of a huge run which saw the price run all the way up to $1.70 without me on board.

A very expensive lesson from my first venture into the markets!
