a down market should actually help gold stocks as the weight of money will be coming out of other sectors to move in to "the only bright spot" gold sector driving it sharply higher. If the whole market was up money would have to be allocated over all sectors lessening the impact.
Probably would not like to see the dow fall to much, but around 150 points would probably be good.
