Of course gold is much more than just a US investor plaything these days. The largest new buyers are China and India so their demand needs to be watched closely.
What the discussion does not cover is the extent to which US investors actually own physical gold in their portfolio. I suspect it is very little in percentage terms. What I think the video indicates is concern about the future direction of the value of financial assets due to heightened concerns about future and present inflation in the US.
