Gold mining companies are likely to suffer following a financial crisis, irrespective of movements in the price of gold...

I would have a look at the annual reports of the companies you own with particular focus on "Current Liabilities". Most mining companies depend on bank finance for their working capital. If those facilities are withdrawn following a financial crisis, the mining operations would necessarily shut down. That probably wouldn't be good for the share price.
