The best shovel I found was a good quality folding army shovel,the ones with a pick on one end and blade on the other.Light ,easy to carry,will bash through most stuff and cheap to replace.The other piece of equipment that saved me a ton of time and digging was a rare earth magnet.They cost around $80 from detector shops.These powerful magnets will rip metallic junk out of shovelfuls of dirt and save you heaps of time.If you a still getting a signal its either bullets or gold!.Always use them inside the plastic box provided or you will never get the junk off it.The other most important peice of equipment is a hat with a fly veil...those W.A bush flies eat repellant for breakfast and will drive you insane eventually.
