    It's irrational indeed.
I don't understand much about short-selling. But common sense tells me that it's one thing to play against the longs, quite another to walk into a trap.
I mean, if I were shorting shares, one of my strategies would be to choose shares in which T20 hold much less than 50% share on issue (SOI) because I want enough liquidity as a quick escape hatch.
In the case of BDR, we know that as at 1 Jul 16, T20 > 70% SOI. Over the past 2 weeks, probably another guestimated 5% has been locked in by institutional investors. The escape hatch seems to be getting inexorably tighter.
If there are no weak hands left, all the trees have been thoroughly shaken bare and BDR's % shorting has somehow increased since 1 Jul, then I wonder whether the instos are lending shares to shorts, with the dual agenda of earning the lending fee while also closing in on the shorters. Eventually the trap door clicks shut and the instos whisper: Gotcha!
Or am I underestimating the liquidity of the remaining 25% SOI? Cheers, R.
