Wow, you give gold coins to your kids? You must be doing well with your BDR shares.
Unfortunately, gold coins are the fav target for counterfeiting. But if we frequently handle gold coins, we can generally sense the fakes because gold is heavy and therefore has heft.
With the exception of tungsten (a close weight match), platinum and rhenium (both ~10% heavier), almost all other metal coins cast into the same dimension feel too light. Platinum and rhenium are expensive and/or rare, so not worth the effort. Tungsten is the name of the game.
