Well yes but the eighties was a completely different situation.
Rates ran to 19% by the end.
If the USD rises further then the AUD will fall and mortgage rates will rise further, right now as indicated already by the big four raising their rates to around 5.5% already. They are doing this to protect their profit margin as they have all been saying.
If the USD rises again then POG will fall.
