"The goldmining sector is abuzz with takeover talk but there are few acquisition opportunities.
Gold Road Resources, however, which has a market value of about $500 million, appears to be the exception.
Many say that the group would likely become a target following its recent deal with South Africa’s Gold Fields, which effectively eliminates risk.
Gold Road last month sold half of its stake in the Gruyere project in Western Australia for $350m to Gold Fields and secured a smelter royalty to get funds for development.
The stake sale came as the market was waiting for Gold Road to announce its funding plan for the $507m Gruyere project, east of the Goldfields town of Laverton.
