    But major currencies aren't pegged to gold, so by default gold isnt a currency. It is just a high priced commodity that is unreactive and relatively rare so it offers reasonable stability.

    If you take away emotion and the history that gold used to be used as a currency, it is no different to say Platinum or gemstones
