Well Sarge17, for many years my view is that acting on brokers' tips makes you broker!
I've learned the hard way from personal experience when I started investing and no longer seek out brokers' tips. An exmaple from the days when phoning a broker to place an order was the norm:
This broker gave me a hot tip. You've got to get in etc. etc. The normal spiel. After a few months I was getting quite suss. So I phoned a different broker and I sold out at a small loss.
On finding out, the broker who gave me the original tip phoned me and was quite concerned that I didn't place my sell order through him.
I told him:
"You've given me a dud tip and made brokerage from me on my purchase. Now that I'm selling your dud tip at a loss I'm not going to give you more brokerage and have you make more money off me."
I never used that broker again.
