10:07am 12/01/03 U.S. Nov factory activity much stronger than expected By Greg Robb WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Factory activity in the United States grew for the fifth consecutive month in November and at the fastest pace since Dec 1983, the Institute for Supply Management reported. The ISM index rose to 62.8 percent in November from 57.0 percent in October. Readings over 50 percent indicate that most manufacturing firms said business was getting better or at least no worse. The rise was much stronger than expected. Economists had forecast the index to rise to about 57.9 percent
