As well as grades dropping at wattle dam the mine also became unstable which made getting to the higher grade areas too risky and expensive. Considering they already had dipped out in other areas they gave up. Treated the stockpile and moved on.
Wattle dam was meant to sustain the mt m start up and still keep the company profitable. But without 50-100mil profit a year they had to do it the hard way.
