    So that table is showing London gold price converted into USD. Seems a silly thing to do when you can just tabulate the actual USD gold price, but anyway I can't help but imagine the dip in 1931 was caused by the tumultuous devaluation of the English pound in that year. The UK treasury was being raided for all its gold.
