I am significantly underwater with my gold stock paper losses (about $50k), but I can't see how they can stay that way for long (apart from one shitty company in particular), given that profit is profit, as ultimately that is how most companies are judged - and they are making plenty of it.

I think it is notable that on a night where equities saw heavy selling that gold was up, particularly in AUD terms. There would usually be a flight to liquidity. Is it that most of the sellers of gold have sold? Miners have been so depressed for 12 months that they could easily move sharply to the upside. The next few days will be telling.
