SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The S&P Global Market Intelligence has published the list of topmost gold producing mines in 2021. These mines were across nine different countries in North America, Oceania, Africa and Asia. The combined production from the above mines totalled around 13 million ounces, representing approximately 12% of the global gold production during the year.
The Nevada Gold Mines in the U.S., the world’s largest gold mining complex and a joint venture between Barrick Gold and Newmont Corporation, was the top producing mine, with an output of 3.311 million ounces of gold, equivalent to 2.9% of the global production. In second place was Muruntau, Uzbekistan with production of 2.990 million ounces. Incidentally, Muruntau represents over 80% of Uzbekistan’s overall gold production. The third largest producer of gold was Grasberg mine in Indonesia which accounted for production of 1.370 million ounces of gold in 2021.
The other mines in the top-ten list along with their outputs in million ounces of gold are as follows: Olimpiada (1.184), Pueblo Viejo (0.814), Kibali (0.812), Cadia (0.765), Lihir (0.737), Canadian Malartic (0.715) and Boddington (0.696).
