Goldbugs and gold salesmen always use the 20 year chart because it's the only time in history gold has beaten the stock market.
Let's go back a little further shall we? Goldbugs are easy targets, gold salesmen know that, and post charts that make goldbugs feel good, but the truth is something else entirely.

Goldbugs consistently fail to adjust for inflation, or note that gold doesn't have a dividend, which makes gold an investing disaster.
