That's not bad at all.
Considering every other asset in Europe was in smithereens anyone who had a stash of gold tucked away could of done quite well post WW2.
I know a few who did that and did very well indeed .
Gold preserves capital compared to other assets unless you lived in the USA and invested in the military industry of death and destruction.
