They are the only country that never declare their gold buying or reserves. There is conjecture with regard to US gold holdings. If they have been buying gold and it became known, it would put a rocket under the gold price. I think they use the media to shine the light on China’s gold purchases to take focus away from themselves.

I don't think they have had to worry about buying gold. I think they have "acquired" plenty from all the lucky countries they have brought "democracy" to over the years.
If their hand is forced by this brics currency then I think they will release an audit that shows just the right amount of gold to maintain some stability for the USD.
