From July 1, 2025, physical gold will be officially recognised as a Tier-1 High Quality Liquid Asset (HQLA) under Basel III banking regulations.
That means US banks can now treat gold the same as cash or Treasuries when calculating capital reserves. In other words, it will be seen as a zero-risk reserve asset.
This change may sound technical, but the implications are huge.
