Trying to trade through the post NFP is for algos. Your reaction speed will not be fast enough. Spreads will widen dramatically regardless where you place your stops and when the stop cannot survive your wrong bet the slippage will rub salt into the wound. You can read whatever research gauging the NFP likely outcome from beating to dissapointing market expectations but if it is a mediocre number then be prepared for Bulls and bears to be whipped out of the market.
I am surprised you sat so long without participating in the long side. There were many $$ to be gained. Good luck.
