Gold will break to the upside again in April. News moves markets. Forget whether you are pro or anti Trump, the reality is that the US government is increasingly getting bogged down in a tar pit.

This is all being very well-telegraphed in advance. Remember the repeal and replacement of Obamacare: it didn't happen.
Passing a spending bill.....if you apply logic, you see that Trump cannot get there from here. The numbers are not there. No amount of wishful thinking or burying heads in sand can change the facts.

1/ A spending bill needs to be passed by April 28 to avoid a government shut-down. The risk is that Congress finds itself without a mechanism to keep the government funded until September 30, the end of the federal fiscal year, forcing some public functions to be halted.
2/ Trump has now effectively declared war on 32 'Freedom Caucus' members in Congress. This is civil war in the Republican Party. This is a mess.
3/ The Trump administration argues that the proposed increase in defence and security spending is urgently needed and cannot wait until the full-year 2018 budget. Yet most lawmakers find it hard to see how such a proposal would pass the Senate where a spending bill must receive 60 votes and only 52 seats are held by Republicans. The current White House spending proposals are widely disliked by Democrats who oppose a bill that would prompt significant cuts to social spending and allocate funds for Mr Trump’s proposed wall. Democrats would also reject a bill that hits funding for Planned Parenthood, a healthcare service for women that offers abortion.
