    By all means read Ferguson but balance him with Thomas Picketty's, Capital, a much more incisive read IMHO. Picketty actually argues that the beginning of fiat money in the US in 1971 was also the beginning of major wealth inequality, as leveraged wealth could expand and expand without the discipline of being backed by gold. Very relevant to many folk on this forum....
