One thing it offers is constancy (at least in relative terms.....humans have long favoured it, and the amount is finite, at least on earth).
It doesn't go through business life stages.
And therein is some inherent value.
To my point, I'd take half a room of gold bars over an international conglomerate any day of the week. One needs attention and nurturing and to be constantly fed with ideas from many thousands of hands to ensure survival. The other just needs a floor, a door, and 'no trespassers, please, sign hanging from said door.
