Mallorca was pretty hot at the beginning of August. We had a few days stuck indoors with the aircon before heading off to the hinterland behind the Côte d'Azur for a bit. (You might put a place call Fayence on your list. Lots of Brits, but not the sort we get here.) I suppose the weather is better than Melbourne.
Now you have me thinking of islands beginning with "M"...
With respect to the articles you have sited, there must be a point where the economics of mining becomes an issue affecting supply. As a non specialist, I would defer to you judgement on the price levels where that becomes a factor.

Menorca is the obvious one. The Brits were there from 1702-1802, so Port Mahon has lots of old Georgian buildings. The beaches near Ciutadella are fabulous. Best visited in June or September...
