Don't expect China to quickly resolve the 'Trade War' with Trump.
Now that the Trade War is impacting the US - and see the 800 point decline of the Dow for evidence - it is very much 'advantage China'. Their strategic aim will be to rid themselves of the thorn in their side who launched the war in the first place. Prolonging a war which starts to bring pain to US companies and consumers will impact on Trumps domestic popularity. Don't give him the 'win', and you can't have him claiming a victory. They will be wary of a second term Trump who may suddenly reopen trade hostilities given that he won't need to win another election, and will be seeking to shape his legacy. So they need him gone in 2020.
Trump offering to step in and help China resolve the 'Hong Kong protests issue' won't go tell well with China. They will see the problem of the Hong Kong protests as entirely a Chinese domestic issue to resolve. It would be a bit like Xi offering to have a summit to help the US leadership resolve some domestic issue in a US state or territory. I am sure China will be deeply offended and will want to 'teach a lesson' so to speak.
