    well actually there are gold and silver coins that are legal tender, so can be used to buy things from the local coles store , as to being forced to accept the coins well to a degree they are, unless the store clearly indicates that they won't accept gold and silver coins or aust currency in general as payment they are required to accept them, of cause the face value is nowhere near the gold/silver content value so those cornflakes would be a very expensive buy
