the self evident flaw referred to is the fact that all indices are made up of stocks that impress the best strength into an index. They drop poor performers and add good performers so the index doesn't change but every stock in it will over time. So comparing any index to gold is comparing the ever changing collective to unchanging gold. And gold has held its own against most indices globally and against any individual stock globally so carrying on about how some index has outperformed gold shows either ignorance or lack of understanding.
