Well not that I subscribe to it...because I don't know the future...but I have heard more than one pundit say that if there is an issue with faith in the dollar and we need to turn to gold for stability... then some sort of a CBDC mixed with gold backing is possible. It's easier to do that with the currency of a nation that has plenty of gold. Again probably won't happen but it's not the craziest thing I've ever heard either.
