"Fuel taxes are handled by the Federal Government, including both an Excise Tax and a Goods and Services Tax or "GST". The tax collected is partly used to fund national road infrastructure projects and repair roads, however most of it (approximately 75%) goes into general revenue.[1]"

Correct greenheart, and did you know it was the industrious, hardworking PM Malcolm Fraser who came up with the Fuel Excise Tax and when he legislated it, it was to be used solely to 'fund national road infrastructure projects and repair roads' but a few short years later one Robert Hawke altered that so that this windfall could be directed into general revenue to be spent by his Labor Gov't at his Cabinet's discretion.
