    ASX ANNOUNCEMENT
    ASX: GOT
    10 December 2010
Groote Eylandt Manganese Project Marine Habitat
    Survey
Australian exploration company Groote Resources Limited (ASX: GOT) ("Groote" "or "the Company") is
pleased to provide the following update as to the various activities associated with the development of
granted exploration tenements (EL27523, EL27550, EL27551), located offshore Groote Eylandt in the
    Northern Territory.
On 9 December Groote representatives attended a productive meeting that was convened by Northern
Territory Minister for Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources, Hon. Kon Vatskalis MLA, with
representatives of the Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC). The purpose of this meeting was to discuss
concerns the Traditional Owners of Groote Eylandt had with the current exploration plans of Groote and
to determine a suitable 'way forward'.
At this meeting Groote thanked the ALC representatives for travelling to Darwin and expressed its
commitment to improving relations with the Groote Eylandt community. Groote spoke of its regret and
sincerely apologised for the anger and hurt caused by its plans. Groote acknowledged that the ALC and
members of the community had expressed complete opposition to any mining activity in the waters off
Groote Eylandt. In recognition of these concerns, the company has amended its program to better
understand the environmental and social concerns of the Traditional Owners and allow further
engagement with the local community to occur.
Groote has delayed Exploration in the waters off Groote Eylandt to undertake a detailed Marine Habitat
Survey. This survey will take approximately 30 days to complete and will commence in early 2011. The
survey will allow the Company to broadly identify and characterise all marine habitats and their
    distribution.
Groote has, in addition, offered to undertake a Social Baseline Study, which would provide details of the
current state of the social and economic environment and the characteristics of the people living in the
area adjacent to the project. While this study has been offered to be undertaken by Groote it would
only be done with the support of the ALC and the local community.
The Company would expect that a Social Baseline Study may (with the consent of the ALC) lead to a
Social Impact and Opportunities Assessment Study which would assess the impacts, positive and
negative, that the project may have on the Groote Eylandt community.
During the course of the meeting, Minister Vatskalis emphasised to those present that due process will
be followed at all times and any future application to mine under the waters around Groote Eylandt
would be subject to rigorous environmental and cultural impact assessments. Groote is entirely
    supportive of this position.
Groote will continue to work closely with the NT Government to ensure that any activities it conducts
on its tenements are in keeping with its legal obligations. For further information:
