Crosby beats a retreat to his chateau

WITH his company crumbling around him, Ventracor boss Peter Crosby has still managed to take care of some mundane practicalities.

A shipping company was last week contracted to transport a swag of Crosby's belongings from his Sydney apartment to his main residence in France.

We assume the freight bill might be forwarded to Ventracor, or more likely its administrators, Ferrier Hodgson, given that the executive's contract includes both a Living Away From Home allowance and the reimbursement of relocation costs.

And while yesterday's announcement gave no indication as to whether Crosby, who earned $1.4 million last year, would remain with the company throughout the administration, he is entitled to 12 months' salary if his role is terminated.

Hopefully the removalists remembered to pack Crosby's favourite possession, a framed photo of his home Chateau Marthon, a nice-looking three-storey manoir with turret that appears to be somewhere near Angouleme, northeast of Bordeaux.

The big worry is that, given that the house looks early 18th century, will his Sydney furniture blend in?
