good eating in country victoria..advice sought

    Hi HC gourmands,

Am off shortly on a 3 week tour around country Victoria......no real itinerary, just a full ipod, trusty jalopy, and the missus (I was going to refer to us as the grey gonads but I won't)with plenty of time to sightsee, visit long forgotten haunts and hopefully get to taste some good country fare and wine.

I have the usual gourmet traveller guides but would appreciate any first hand recommendations on really good eating establishments that might be a bit different from the norm.

For example is the "Copperpot" still at Bendigo & is it any good these days?

Was told once that it got its name from all the copper pots hanging from the ceiling....wondered aloud if Fannys in Melbourne was similarly named but drew a blank.

Any suggestions welcome as "Have fork , will travel"

    cheers & thnkx in advance.
