IDP hasn't previously delivered IELTS testing in China. IELTS test delivery in China until now has been via the British Council. They have however received a royalty revenue stream from the BC (not sure how much, will need to reread their Annual Reports). Only from H2, 2025 will IDP directly deliver IELTS in China.
The issue you raise about the competitive threat from Pearson is genuine, but I'd estimate that Pearsons currently have a sub 10% market share for Chinese students applying to Australia. No idea about their share into Canada and the UK.
