The main obstacle I can see is eliminating perceived "charge" anxiety. EVs will do around around 400 - 500km per charge on current technology but 80% of Australian only drive around 60km or less per day which means they only have to top up. Despite this, they are convinced by ICE protagonists that they will either be left stranded because of the lack of charging stations. They also argue that EVs can't do what ICE vehicles can do. Morrison's statements about utes at the last election is a good case in point. So education is the key
That's not to say that we don't need more charging infrastructure.
