It was used as a power source for transport but civilization in those days were not very advanced and oil companies,.... pardon, ...oh sorry it's a greasy slimy black sort of liquid that they poured into vehicles through some sort of rubber hose and the owners of the oil got very rich selling it but unfortunately destroyed the atmosphere in the process.
