Yeah, though economies of scale are building leading to lower costs. If you compare say $55k Tesla M3 with BMW ICE counterpart, savings from fuel and maintenance cost on the M3 is just over $20K for first 5 years, recycle that $20k savings and build a home solar + battery setup, nil EV fuel costs or power bill for next 5 years, not to mention the additional +$20k savings for the EV = $13k cost for EV if held for 10 years and free solar + battery setup.
