thanks and appreciate your thoughts. Apologies to others and I won’t add further after this. It is vital people all can question the information before them for the future and environment and acknowledge there are trade offs and actions to be taken. This is also just responding to a original comment of yours and your thinking.
I beg to differ and acknowledge it may not be a strong topic for many? but it should be for many Australians regardless of location.
the rivers often didn’t run and the irrigation scheme has bought much more environmental benefits and stability than many including the Wentworth group realise, and the water was never crystal clear at all. Carp certainly didn’t help either from the early 70’s. The Barmah choke doesn’t seem to be respected or understood by the Wentworth group and MDBA and caused much environmental damage and huge losses of production to ma y industries including the vital dairy industry.. The real issues are the lower lakes . When we play with nature and turn sea water estuaries into fresh water (crazy), that’s a great issue. Barrages should be removed. We shouldn’t push/waste precious fresh water out to sea and we must realise how much water it takes to get from the snowy to the fake fresh water estuary. Is it a loss of 75%? Totally stupid anyhow and vital for Australia’s food bowl that could feed many countries.
The cotton causing damage to soil etc has no basis ( soil salinity etc needs to be managed more for rice and almonds) it is a needed product for manufacturing of course. The real worry is the almond plantations. They are less vital than rice etc and more a comfort leisure product with goodness too. Almond use more, much water than cotton and rice in areas, they can use more water than rice which would surprise many.
anyhow, apologies it’s not directly related to lithium, however it’s a response to a previous comment and ties into our future safety and reliability of life with a clean healthy environment.
