good article but some clueless comments at the bottom. Many factors provide a uphill challenge to make batteries in Australia or value add. In basic terms, the product value added doesn’t have a shelf life to travel and then meet the ever stricter purity requirements. We also don’t have the know how and this has been dominated by the Chinese and they have been behind in their capacity increases expected/targeted.
Our trade unions etc have pushed much of our manufacturing activities off shore and we cannot match the Chinese labour rates. However they are increasing and Vietnam, India and other places are now a strong focus for future manufacturing by Australia. The trade spats by chinas vexatious and bully tactics also haven’t endeared us to them or enhancing any trust.
