I don't know if I read it correctly:
If BYD has actually bought the six mines, they get 25m tons of rocks out of them, equivalent to 1m tons of lithium carbonate. A normal electric car with 60kwh battery capacity needs about 36kg of lithium carbonate, so it can only be enough for 27.8m cars(1,000,000,000 / 36=27,777,778). BYD aims to sell 150m cars per annum, so these may last them for just over 18 years or longer if they fail to hit the target.
However, more lithium batteries will be needed in bigger vehicles(eg. SUV, trucks etc.) in the near future while less and less mines are available, I believe that Li shares will win in a long run.
