I think political donations and votes from coal workers in key marginal seats such as the Hunter also have a lot to do with the Liberal support.
Even Joel fitzgibbon is supportive of coal as he does not want to lose his seat either.
Long term the cost of keeping coal will be far greater than the short term profits that are currently being made.
Most political decisions are about self preservation, personal gain and director jobs when the MP's lose their seat.
The long term benefits to Australia and the world come pretty low down the pecking order.
