I have had control of my own super for years, initially as a DIY fund but more recently with a MyNorth fund operated by the AMP. The MyNorth fund does have restrictions on investments but I can have anything I like so long as it is in the ASX300 plus a good selection of Listed Investment Companies (the LIC's are not part of the ASX300 index and so have to be "approve" by AMP to be usable). If an investment falls out of the ASX300 it can be kept but not added to.
