So the pollution issues in the Jinjiang River in China appear to be associated with ceramic lithium processors that are switching over to processing lithium lepidolite/slag for lithium converters. These traditionally ceramic processors aren't upgrading their waste water treatment plants, which are aren't suitable for processing the new waste water streams. It is unclear how much material theses producers are suppling chinese lithium converters.
I assume it will take an approximate six month window for authorities to confidently identify the issue/s, propose a solution, and for producers to modify their waste water treatment plants. That will reduce their supply to lithium converters till mid 2023. Nothing major, but definitely reduces expected feedstock next year. Doesn't help BYD grow annual EV sales from 2 million in 2022 to 3 million in 2023.
