Albemarle values Liontown at $5.2 billion

US-based commodities giant Albemarle has confirmed that it submitted a proposal to acquire Liontown Resources for $US1.66 ($2.50) a share in cash.
Based on that arrangement, the company said it valued Liontown at US$3.4 billion ($5.2 billion).
It comes as Liontown’s board rejected Albemarle’s bid on Monday.
“Albemarle notes that the Liontown board has not meaningfully engaged with Albemarle to facilitate its shareholders receiving the benefits of the proposal,” the company said in a statement.
“Albemarle believes this is a compelling opportunity for Liontown shareholders and that Liontown’s board should immediately engage with Albemarle to facilitate a binding offer to be put to its shareholders for their consideration.”
