My take is more that government restrictions worldwide to meet all the prescribed emissions reductions targets will force the use of ev's - so in effect vehicle price becomes a bit irrelevant.
if you can't buy an ice you have to buy an ev - even if it costs more - and it may not be to everyone's liking.
Hence why every single major car manufacturer is swapping production and phasing out ice's. All of them.
There is therefore no need to price match (say) a mazda3 ice to a new (say) mazda3 ev. you simply won't be able to buy a new mazda3 ice. Running cost calcs are irrelevant.
I think it's obvious this is happening now- and it's going to be a pretty rapid phase out too - some/most manufacturers are talking circa 5 year timeframes.
obviously the used ice market will remain longer but not for new vehicles. Maybe some limited new specialty ice vehicles will remain ? - sports cars / long range / haulage / commercial etc ? but not std daily drivers.
if the ice daily drivers do remain I can see some hefty taxing coming to cover carbon offsets. But you know governments do love to tax.....
Delivery of these goals may be difficult, delayed or not wholly achieved - but the goals are already set. We the public have no choice. We are on the road to ev now.
