Yes, of course the Australian taxpayer has a right to know where their taxes are being spent.
You then question whether "throwing money blindly" at the issue without determining whether it is achieving the desired result is prudent?
No, of course it's not.
In any department, with any expenditure.
Whether it is the billions in offshore detention that have clearly enriched dodgy shelf companies and corrupt officials.
Wherher it is the estimated $40bn that Josh Fraudenburg cost taxpayers when he forgot to put a qualifying box on JobKeeper corporate welfare benefits.
Or whether it is in the administration of Indigenous Affairs, where Canberra bureaucrats who don't understand the problems design and oversee programs for remote communities that unsurprisingly are not meeting their targets.
Which, ironically, is what The Voice to Parliament is all about.
Grass roots community advice to Parliament on programs relevant to indigenous communities so they can be more effective - and in doing so get better outcomes at better value for taxpayers.
By the way, that advice doesn't have to be accepted by the Government of the day.
But given the failure in current programs to Close the Gap, the Govt of the day would be petty stupid not to take that advice.
But as we saw with the past 10 years from the Coalition, political policy dumbness is not in short supply.
