I put it this way - my parents did it pretty tuff for a long time. Both of them only had 3 holidays in their lives. My life has been easier than theirs (a lot) - a lot more the last 25 years. Our two daughters have had it a lot easier than my wife and I. Put them through year 12, TAFE and UNI, bought them a car worth $15k each and said now you are on your own. A lot of youngies are use to the good life (mum and dad) by the time they start work and expect it to continue. Not prepared to lower their standards, sacrifice, move to cheaper housing etc.
I have one daughter married who has gone out and achieved things (double degrees) has a house worth close to a $1m, probably $1/4m in super - 38 yrs old. The other is 33 single lives at home and has $75k in shares, $60k in super and about $10-15k in the bank. By the way my first house I bought - 1973 $14500 - about 60-70 sq m. Investment property - made $2.5k in 12 months - sold divorce settlement. Current house cost $200k in 1999 - now worth around $800k. INFLATION cheers
